My son recently told me that he didn’t consider my work to be “a real job” because often he hears me talking about cupcakes and crusty bread during my “meetings.”
He’s not entirely wrong; at King Arthur we spend a disproportionate amount of time thinking and talking about every aspect of the baking world, from trends (hello, fancy sheet cakes), to techniques (we love you, reverse creaming), to tools, ingredients, and cookbooks.
We guessed other curious bakers might want in on our conversations. So, we took to the airwaves with our new podcast, Things Bakers Know. Each episode takes a deep dive into a particular topic; for our five-episode debut season cohost David Tamarkin and I have already discussed chocolate chip cookies, birthday cake, and pizza; for the two remaining episodes this season we’re talking sourdough and biscuits. On each episode, we interview other incredibly talented bakers, voice our deeply held opinions, and share fascinating stories about how baking intersects with everyday life. We also devote part of each episode to answering your baking questions. (Record your own here, and you may be featured on a future episode!)
In the first season, you’ll learn about the first thing baked in space, hear from celebrated pizzaiolo Dan Richer about how to make outstanding pizza in your home oven, get some tricks for making great cakes from two of the best bakers in the business, find out about the surprising connection between biscuits and basketball, and discover how I really feel about warm chocolate chip cookies. I laugh a lot in each episode (I mean, a lot), because we’re having a really fun time making this podcast. And we hope you have as much fun listening. We hope you enjoy the pilot season; we’ll be back this fall with 10 (!) new episodes.
