About Joy Huang

Contributor

Joy Huang has always loved [to eat] food, but it wasn't until taking the Introduction to Culinary Arts class her senior year at college that she really discovered her love of cooking, too. She started her food blog, The Cooking of Joy, because she was inspired to document her mom's Taiwanese recipes. That outlet fueled her interest in food media, and now you can find her most recent creations on Instagram at @joyosity.

She started making sourdough bread in 2019 because she was intrigued with the art of bread scoring and needed to provide a canvas to practice on. Little did she know that a year later sourdough would become everyone's new favorite hobby, and sharing her expertise on the topic helped her Instagram page take off. On top of scoring sourdough, she also loves forming challah into fun shapes (including an 8-legged challamari!) and making pies and tarts that feature intricate patterns made out of fruit and vegetables. Her next baking goal is to make a cake for Dr. John Shen on The Pitt because he was so sad that there wasn't one in Season 2.

Some of the accomplishments that she is most proud of include John Krasinski saying her name (and pronouncing it correctly!) on episode 5 of Some Good News (because they featured a video of her baking hundreds of cookies for health care workers), singing the National Anthem at Fenway Park 3 times (with the Jimmy Fund Chorus in 2013), making a loaf of bread so beautiful her chef friend had it tattooed on her arm, and taking part in a photoshoot at King Arthur Baking because her Taiwanese Bakery Focaccia recipe was going to be featured in an issue of their catalog!
